BIRD at the Plate While Big Papi Waits On Deck!

Friday, February 20th, 2009

Big Papi is awating his turn at the plate

Big Papi is awating his turn at the plate

Larry Bird hit the market today with shares trading, between $12.00-$15.00 range. Larry is landing *just* under where people were speculating he would, indicating he’s a good buy. Legends will always be the best investments to make. They don’t get their eyes poked, putting them out for the year, they don’t have crappy performances in the playoffs, and they don’t get fined or suspended. Their legacies are already set. I believe all legends should rise and dip on nearly the same rate. As new legends are added, they will just reorganize themselves in the market, get their places set and be permanently in that order. Gretzy hasn’t found his place yet, and he won’t until OneSeason opens up shop, offically, in Canada. What are your thoughts on legends? What kind of 3rd party games can YOU come up with using legends?

KEN GRIFFEY JR. BACK TO SEATTLE

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

FROM ESPN.COM!!!!

Ken Griffey Junior is headed back to Seattle.

The future Hall of Famer informed the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday that he’s returning to the city where he carved out a Hall of Fame career as a perennial All-Star in the 1990s.

Two baseball sources said that Griffey made his decision after two days of debating between Atlanta, which is close to his home in Orlando, Fla., and Seattle, where he’s been a fan favorite since breaking in with the Mariners as a 19-year-old phenom in 1989.

The contract is for one year and $2 million guaranteed and includes incentives that could bring the total value of the deal to $4.5 million, a source said.

As of late last week, it appeared a virtual certainty that Griffey would return to Seattle. But Griffey reached out to the Braves and received a warm reception from manager Bobby Cox and third baseman Chipper Jones, among others.

The Braves were hoping to sign Griffey as a platoon partner for Matt Diaz in left field, and Griffey appeared energized by the prospect of playing so close to home and spending spring training in Orlando.

But the Griffey-to-Atlanta momentum hit the skids Tuesday afternoon, when the sentimental lure of Seattle apparently began to tug at him. One person close to Griffey said he had an “agonizing” 24 hours trying to decide between the Braves and Mariners.

Griffey is extremely close to Mariners president Chuck Armstrong and chairman Howard Lincoln from his previous tenure with Seattle from 1989 through 2000. He made the All-Star team and won a Gold Glove with the Mariners every year during the 1990s, and received a hero’s welcome when he returned to the city with the Cincinnati Reds in 2007.

It’s believed that the Mariners would like to continue their association with Griffey in some fashion when he retires — although it’s uncertain in what role.

Griffey is likely to spend time in left field in Seattle, where Endy Chavez is currently the starter, and could also be a DH for new manager Don Wakamatsu. He turned 39 in November, and underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in the offseason.

The loss of Griffey to Seattle marked another setback in a challenging offseason for the Braves, who traded for starter Javier Vazquez and signed free agents Derek Lowe and Kenshin Kawakami, but failed to complete a trade for Jake Peavy and fell short in the pursuit of free agents A.J. Burnett and Rafael Furcal.

Braves general manager Frank Wren also took some heat when longtime Atlanta mainstay John Smoltz signed with the Boston Red Sox.

It’s likely that Atlanta will have an acquisition to announce shortly, however. A source said the Braves are moving closer to bringing back pitcher Tom Glavine on a one-year contract, and a deal could be announced as soon as Thursday.

The Nation is BIRD Watching!

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

OSN Analyst Timmy304

We are officially BIRD watching!

After much anticipation, BIRD is the next IPO to be released into the market. Not only has this been the most anticipated IPO since GTZY, but besides MGIC it might be a while before we have another legend released into the market. Even before DNCN’s IPO was announced we already had a contest to guess BIRD’s total market value and total shares traded on his day of release (go check out Dancenham’s contest to win a nation shirt). Everyone is looking to get a piece of BIRD.

BIRD will also be another landmark for the dreaded IPO alerts. Many people decided as soon as Bob’s tool went free there was no reason to pay for alerts anymore; however, others have decided that they will wait for BIRD to be released to ensure they will receive his shares. Also, as nearly everyone knows now, OneSeason has declared to expect a smaller maximum per person which has been around 0.4%-0.5% and most have expected the timestamp would become longer and longer to allow the casual OneSeason user to be part of the IPO market. However, we saw DNCN’s latest timestamp was around the 4 minute mark. Even with the small maximum it is very possible we see the latest timestamp to receive BIRD less than 2 minutes.

So get your F5 button ready for the tornado and test all of your premium IPO alerts, because you do not want to be on the outside looking in for this highly anticipated IPO. Everyone get on your perch and wait impatiently for Larry Legend to be announced.

Just when you thought it was safe to move on and forget about her, Danica Patrick comes strutting her way back into our lives with her photoshoot for the latest issue of Sports Illustrated’s swimsuit issue. Any photos you may have seen of her in the past are quickly forgotten with the photospread she shot for SI. Here is a sampling of the photos. Stay tuned for more. The Nation would very much like a Danica Patrick SOI.

Lance? I'd like you to meet Wiggers. Wiggers? Meet Lan....Hey! Come back with that Bike!

Lance Armstrong was in Sacramento, CA for a training race as he gears up for his coming out of retirement party at the next Tour ‘de France. Sacramento is best known as the capital of California, the birthplace and home of the OneSeason Nation, and the place where all of the photos for lolwigger.com are taken.

Do you have Lance's Bike, Wigger?

Do you have Lance's Bike, Wigger?

How about you Wiggers? Seend Lance's Bike?

How about you Wiggers? Seen Lance's Bike anywhere?

Lance’s bike is worth an estimated $10,000 and is one of a kind. $10,000 can buy you a lot of Old E, Cubic Zirconium, and aluminum bling. Here is the article from the Sacramento ABC News 10. Wiggers, give Lances bike back.

A “Great” Split

Monday, February 16th, 2009

Gretzky Splits

Gretzky Splits

We saw our first 2 for 1 split last night, confirming what everyone who voted in the Nation’s Polls already knew. Gretzky would be the next SOI to split. This puts a little over 3400 shares of Gretzky on the market, and now makes his shares far more affordable for the casual trader. The Nation holds a large chunk of GTZY and in speaking with many of the people who own his shares in the Nation, they have no intention of selling him any time soon. He is a great investment. His shares are in good hands. So far today he has traded 5 shares and his avg price is $8.61. The best sell currently is $9.43.

Reunited and it Feels so Good!

Awwwww

Awwwww

In classic Peaches and Herb fashion, Shaq and Kobe put on a great show in Sunday’s NBA All-Star game. They both split the NBA MVP reward for their efforts. Famous 3rd party game supporter DurShar sent out the challenge, and some brave Nation members answered the call. If the winner of the MVP award for the all star game was a SOI in OneSeason, then he would buy one. People were invited to follow suit. When Kobe and Shaq were announced as co-MVPs, the screenshots buying BOTH SOIs started being posted.

Clearly, the highlight of the entire weekend though, was the following clip. Better than Durant winning H.O.R.S.E, better than Durant dropping 47 in the rookie challenge game, better than DHOW’s 12″ dunk*, better than Nate Robinson’s Kryptonite dunk, this moment will forever live in our memories as a top 3 Shaq moment of all time. Ladies and Gentlemen, Shaq being announced for the WEST for Sunday’s All Star game, enjoy.

Shaquille “The Big Cactus” O’Neal clearly as found the fountain of youth this year, and showed flashes of his old self in this game as well. Here was the play of the game, a give and go with Shaq and Chris Paul. Shaq passes to Chris Paul BETWEEN DWIGHT HOWARDS LEGS, and Shaq then runs by a stunned DHOW, gets the bounce pass back, and dunks it home. When you watch the replay on TV, look for DHOW’s HUGE smile and laugh as he knows he just got owned. DHOW is a great sport as well. I hope you guys got to see this and enjoy the fun that is Shaq. This will probably be the last time you see him play in an All-Star game. Here is the play of the game.

Have a great week everyone!

Sneak Peek at Joe Girardi’s Rules for the Yankees Players This Year

Saturday, February 14th, 2009

wat

wat

The OSN has obtained 9 of Joe Girardi’s 17 rules for his players this year. Some interesting stuff. It looks as if beards will be allowed this year? Maybe this was in C.C. Sabathia’s contract. What are your thoughts?

1. Be on time. No excuse for lateness.

2. Shorts and T-shirts only permitted during spring training.

3. Curfew of 1 a.m.

4. Jewelry - only one chain is permitted. No earrings.

5. Only neatly cut beards, mustaches, goatees. No long hair or “unshaven looks.”

6. No family members in the clubhouse until after games.

7. No cell phones in the dugout.

8. Cell phones only allowed in the clubhouse until one hour before games.

9. No competing speakers in the clubhouse.

Regarding Volume

Saturday, February 14th, 2009

Here is an article from Chuck Diesel, which offers some compelling reasons that the market is actually healthy, and gives a nice tall glass of STFU to the people who are constantly whining, complaining, and bitching about volume. Especially the ones who do it in a sarcastic manner, and thus continue proving they know NOTHING about this market. Enjoy this, and think about it. Maybe those who are preaching volume to the masses will realize how stupid they sound. The key is how much money is being put into buying players, not which players. If people are only buying expensive SOIs, and laying off the cheap stuff, that might be an indicator of buying patterns.

~ChuckDiesel

Volume is a nice term to describe market activity when talking about the real market, but we are at a point now where the use of the term is misleading. Three big winners this week were GTZY, DRNT and PPRC, each of whom has a tiny amount of SOI’s outstanding compared to YAOM. The real market has thousands upon thousands of companies to balance this kind of discrepancy out, be we don’t.

I would recommend using total money spent in the market as a barometer. Multiply volume * average price for each player and add it up. Here’s what I get when I do that:

Week Ending, Money Moved (in thousands), Market Cap (in thousands)
_10/3/2008_____$261.2________$613_
10/10/2008_____$130.6________$303_
10/17/2008_____$358.2______$1,079_
10/24/2008___$1,973.1_____$10,437_
10/31/2008___$1,429.4______$8,628_
_11/7/2008_____$633.9______$5,268_
11/14/2008_____$259.1______$3,550_
11/21/2008_____$159.3______$2,617_
11/28/2008______$52.4______$1,929_
12/5/2008_______$77.4______$1,140_
12/12/2008______$65.6________$801_
12/19/2008______$92.1________$690_
12/26/2008______$13.6________$528_
__1/2/2009_______$8.9________$420_
__1/9/2009_____$119.2________$898_
_1/16/2009_____$368.4______$1,224_
_1/23/2009_____$178.3______$1,248_
_1/30/2009______$88.1________$968_
__2/6/2009______$71.8______$1,109_
__2/13/2009_____$73.2______$1,073_

So, we HAVE, in fact, seen a slight uptick in activity this week, albeit still at a relatively low level. I just think this metric is much more meaningful than volume,at this point (on a side note, we had 16875 shares moved this week compared to 17543 last week). Keep in mind also that this week we had just one IPO (DRNT) compared to two the previous week (BIGB & DIRK).
